Our History

In 2005, Sisters at a Crossroads, was founded by The Guttenberg Family to assist Domestic Violence Victims & their families with long-term housing. 

In late 2017, the Guttenberg Family moved to New Mexico and contacted Joan Cunningham to take over the Charity.

Mrs. Cunningham is well known in the region for assisting Domestic Violence Victims. Over the past year, Sisters, under Joan's guidance has expanded its outreach throughout Essex County. 

In 2018, Sisters expanded its Board and opened Offices and  an Educational Center in Elizabethtown, NY.

In 2019, Sisters is also expanding their mission to include additional housing and Survivor Training Programs (see sisters empowerment centers) to assist survivors in gaining economic independance.


is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization.

We receive no direct local, state or federal government funding.

We rely solely on the

generosity of our Donors and the Cunningham Family to supply our annual operating needs.
